Digital vehicle registration in Saxony: Where is the progress?
The digital revolution in vehicle registration has not yet reached everywhere in Saxony! While many citizens are already enjoying the benefits of online admissions, some counties are lagging behind in the digital age. The latest i-KfZ level 4 is not yet available in Görlitz, Central Saxony, Northern Saxony as well as in the Erzgebirge and Vogtland. Safety requirements from the Federal Motor Transport Authority stand in the way of progress, but a solution is in sight: The introduction of this level is planned for next year!
Technical hurdles and increasing demand
The technology is vulnerable and repeatedly causes disruptions, as the Leipzig district office reports. Many citizens have difficulty completing the registration process online because they often overlook important information. While deregistering a car or changing the address is relatively easy, registering it completely is challenging. In Leipzig, however, the use of online admission has tripled compared to the previous level! In the Zwickau district, applications have increased more than tenfold with the click of a mouse.
Cost savings through online admission
The Federal Ministry of Transport emphasizes that online registration not only saves time but also money. The fees are significantly lower: 16.30 euros for online registration compared to 30.60 euros at the counter! Decommissioning also only costs 2.70 euros online, while 16.80 euros is due at the counter. In Dresden, however, the use of digital offerings is still low, although decommissioning is the most common practice here. A clear call to the districts: It's time to ride the digital wave!
