Winter solstice in Saxon Switzerland: Celebrate under the stars!
On December 21, 2024 it's that time again: the shortest day and the longest night of the year are approaching. The winter solstice is duly celebrated in Saxon Switzerland. Climbers and nature lovers in particular gather during this time to keep traditions alive. A popular meeting place is Kleine Liebe, a forest clearing near Bad Schandau, where the Dresden Brambling Choir will begin with festive songs from 5 p.m. The solstice fire is then ignited with the powerful call “Flame up”, like that Weekly Courier reports.
Celebrations also take place at the same time on the opposite side of the Elbe. Here the famous Saxon mountaineering choir “Kurt Schlosser” Dresden provides musical entertainment on the festival site in Kleinhennersdorf. This venue also promises an atmospheric ambience, accompanied by a large solstice fire and an offer of food and drinks. Such celebrations are not just a custom, but bring people together to welcome the return of light and celebrate the winter season.
