Police operation at Erfurt main station: Dynamo fans cause chaos!

Erfurt, Erfurt main station

On Saturday evening, November 2nd, 2024, Erfurt Central Station became the scene of a turbulent police operation when the return journey of SG Dynamo Dresden football fans turned out to be chaotic. After an exciting draw (1:1) against FC Ingolstadt 04, some supporters chose an unusual route home via Frankfurt am Main, which had unforeseen consequences.

An alarming situation arose in an ICE on the way to Saxony: the federal police were informed that insults and even sexual harassment had occurred. Two suspects from the ranks of the lively football travelers were quickly identified when the train stopped at Erfurt Central Station. A 39-year-old man shockingly insulted a 21-year-old woman and overstepped her boundaries, while another 32-year-old supporter attacked a 71-year-old man who complained about fans' loud behavior.

Massive police presence secures the situation

Not only federal police officers rushed to help, but also members of the Thuringian riot police. Together they ensured that the situation remained under control while interviewing witnesses and victims. After the police intervened, the long-distance train was able to continue towards Leipzig with a delay of around an hour, with the Dynamo supporters being escorted under strict protection.

The incident highlights the problems that football travel can sometimes cause, particularly when a minority of fans cross the boundaries of decency. Despite the events, the majority were able to return home peacefully, but the shadow of the incident could have a long-lasting effect on those affected.
