Chemnitz increases admission prices: Cultural capital year is becoming more expensive!
In Chemnitz it gets expensive! The city council decided on Wednesday a drastic increase in admission prices for museums - on average by a whopping 25 percent! And all at the start of the Capital of Culture Year! Visitors have to adjust to significantly higher costs if they want to visit the Chemnitz art collections.
The price increase affects several facilities, including the art collections on Theaterplatz, the Museum Gunzenhauser and the Henry van de Velde Museum in the Villa Esche. The last adjustment of the prices took place in 2019. From now on, a daily ticket no longer costs eight euros, but ten euros, while the reduced ticket increases from five to 6.50 euros. The city administration justifies this step with increasing personnel and material costs as well as the need for budget consolidation.
also for zoo and Wildgatter
But that's not all! The admission prices for the Chemnitz zoo and the Wildgatter Oberrabenstein are also increasing for the first time in 16 years! From January 15, 2025, adults will have to pay 9.50 euros instead of six euros for the zoo. In the wild gate, the prices climb from three to 4.50 euros. The city has increased the prices to cope with the new challenges and to adapt the fee schedule to the upcoming Karl Schmidt-Rottluff Haus, which will soon be opened.
