Sadex leaves Winnenden: cult brand moves to Bernburg!

Sadex closes production in Winnenden and relocates it to Bernburg in Saxony-Anhalt. The company, which had been based in Winnenden since 1951, stopped producing its well-known effervescent sticks due to financial difficulties. These difficulties resulted from rising sugar prices and the loss of important trading partners.

Sadex was originally founded by Fritz Sattler, who previously sold glucose tablets. The effervescent sticks, introduced in 1951 as a children's cigarette, remained the company's main product. After bankruptcy, Top Sweets GmbH from Nordkirchen took over the company. 16 jobs were retained. Last year, Sadex was sold to Wohlgemut Süßwaren GmbH from Bernburg.

Closure and employees

The closure affects 13 employees in Winnenden. The company will rent the building in Winnenden until December 31, 2024 and then return it. Although the Sadex brand will remain, production will no longer take place in Winnenden. Instead, it will be integrated into the existing production facilities in Bernburg, where other confectionery products are also produced.

According to a report by the ZVW Sadex last opened its factory outlet in Hertmannsweiler on November 29, 2024. As part of this sale, both whole and broken effervescent sticks were offered, and the factory outlet took place at Lise-Meitner-Straße 14 in the Schmiede industrial area.

There are still other manufacturers of sparkling products in the Winnenden region, such as Ahoj-Brausepulver and Robert Friedel GmbH (Frigeo), which may be able to close the gap in the product range.
