Energy future at a glance: incentive regulation for the energy transition discussed

On October 15, 2024, the first DENA dialog Netze 2024 took place, an important event that aims to discuss important topics of the energy infrastructure in Germany. The dialog contains the transfer of regulatory powers from the legislator to the Federal Network Agency, a step that could have potentially profound changes in the incentive regulation of the power grids.

The focus of the event was on the question of how the incentive regulation can be adjusted in order to make the power grids meet the requirements of an energy transition. The Federal Network Agency published a key point paper in February 2024 that started the discussion about the future design of the regulatory framework. The aim of the regulatory authority is to develop concrete proposals based on the exchange with various actors from the industry and experts.

program highlights

The agenda of the DENA dialog was comprehensive and essential contributions came from different perspectives. Philipp Heilmaier, head of the future of energy supply at DENA, opened the event with a greeting. This was followed by an impulse department by Gregor Glasmacher, who presented the views of the Federal Network Agency on regulatory development.

Another important speaker was Markus Hümpfer, member of the Bundestag from the SPD, who gave political insights into the topic. The afternoon included a number of industry impulses in which experts like David Bendorf von E.ON and Dr. Wolfgang Fritz von Consentec GmbH presented their perspectives on the energy transition and for regulation.

In addition, a panel discussion was planned in which the speakers could interact with the audience. Katharina Umpfenbach, head of infrastructure and overall system at DENA, took over the moderation and led through this critical exchange.

The event ended with a relaxed networking opportunity for pretzels and drinks, which enabled the participants to deepen the discussed topics and to establish new contacts.

The increasing interest in the political and economic design of the power grids illustrates the urgency of creating a robust network that meets the requirements of future energy supply. The continued discussions and the exchange of ideas, such as on the DENA dialog, are essential for the development of a practical and effective regulation.

The DENA-Dialog Netze 2024 is financed by various partners, including prominent companies such as 50hertz, Badenovanetze and Siemens, who also have an interest in a successful and sustainable energy transition.
