Trier western track: soon again personal trains in regional traffic!
An exciting turn for the train in Rhineland-Palatinate! The long decommissioned west route at Trier, which has been in operation for over 120 years, will soon be brought back to life. While passenger traffic has been standing up since the 1980s, Deutsche Bahn now shows that the return of regional traffic is already in close proximity! With the last work, which should be completed by December 2024, the glimmer of hope for travelers on the Moselle is shown.
New shine for old tracks
The Weststrecke Trier is expected to be released for passenger train traffic in spring 2025. In preparation for this, four new traffic stations are being built or modernized, including the train stations Trier-Euren, Trier-Zewen, Kreuz-Konz and Trier-Haßenstraße, which will soon be willing to receive travelers. Only the elevator facilities in Trier-Hhafenstraße are still on the brink of whether they can be completed in good time. But don't worry: the stations Trier pallia and Trier-West are also in the starting blocks! The final fine work should be completed at the end of April 2025.
exciting connections for commuters
Passenger pickups are not the end of the good news: The new regional train lines RB 83 and RB 84 will carry travelers every day every 60 minutes! Especially the RB 83, which drives to Luxembourg, promises a perfect connection for commuters. This means about every 30 minutes a train during the week, which should make this route an exciting option for many travelers.
But the sensation doesn't stop here! From the end of October, freight trains are allowed to use the route again, while regular passenger transport will not start until 2025. The reactivation brings a breath of fresh air to rail traffic and soon lets the old route pulsate again!
