Digital turnaround: Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis and Frankenthal join forces!

In a bold step to meet the growing challenge of personnel capacities and the digitalization of administration, the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis and the city of Frankenthal have set the course for closer cooperation! The two partners see great opportunities, particularly in the area of vehicle registration, to reduce costs, relieve the burden on employees and offer citizens a first-class service. But what the collaboration will look like remains unclear for the time being. It is still unclear when it will begin and how it will be implemented in terms of personnel and technology.

The urgency of these measures is underlined by massive problems in the registration offices in the Rhine-Palatinate district. Citizens report unbearable waiting times of weeks for an appointment! The branch offices in Dudenhofen and Heßheim were even completely closed at times. In order to remedy these grievances, the district committee has now decided to move the registration office to the former Sparkasse branch on Schifferstadter Bahnhofstrasse. A long-awaited step, but still waiting for the country's approval.

Inter-municipal cooperation in focus

The idea of inter-communal cooperation is not new! Frankenthal and the Rhine-Palatinate district were already part of a model project in collaboration with Speyer and Ludwigshafen. But the hurdles remain high! Due to different specialist procedures and advances in digitalization, not all areas of action can currently be managed together. This insight comes from District Administrator Clemens Körner (CDU) and Frankenthal Mayor Nicolas Meyer (FWG), who emphasize in their joint statement that successful cooperation already exists in certain areas, such as adoption placement. Further projects are already being planned!
