Mainz Christmas market: high visitor numbers and peaceful atmosphere!

In Mainz, the Christmas and winter markets experienced remarkably strong visitor interest this year. On peak days there were up to 22,150 people at the markets, with the highest number of visitors recorded on December 12th. While the average number of visitors was 14,130, the atmosphere was largely peaceful despite the large crowds. The police recorded only 20 crimes, including ten property crimes such as pickpocketing BYC News reported.

Security measures have been stepped up, particularly in light of an incident in Magdeburg that led to increased police presence. A total of 339 identity checks were carried out and 56 expulsions were issued, mostly due to preventative measures against pickpocketing or improper behavior. A sensational incident occurred when 140 grams of marijuana were seized during an inspection. There was also an incident in a toilet container that led to a report. On December 19, climate activists demonstrated and their gathering was quickly broken up by police, reports said freenet.de.

Safe events despite challenges

The Rhineland-Palatinate police rated the markets as exceptionally calm. Minimal crime was reported throughout the event period from November 28th to December 23rd, including one case of negligent bodily harm on a carousel. Traffic safety checks resulted in 81 violations being identified, including one complaint against a drunk driver. Thanks to the combination of high visitor numbers and efficient security precautions, the Christmas markets were considered a success and provided a model example of peaceful festivities.
