Mainz Christmas market: high number of visitors and a peaceful mood!

The Christmas and winter time markets in Mainz experienced a remarkably strong visitor interest this year. On peak days, up to 22,150 people were in the markets, whereby the highest number of visitors was counted on December 12th. If the average number of visitors was 14,130, the atmosphere was largely peaceful despite the great crowds. The police only accounted for 20 crimes, including ten ownership offenses such as pickpockets, such as BYC-NEWS reported.

The security measures were reinforced, especially in view of an incident in Magdeburg, which led to increased police presence. A total of 339 personal checks took place and 56 references were issued, mostly due to preventive measures against pick -up steels or unintentionally. A sensational incident happened when 140 grams of marijuana were secured during a check. There was also an incident in a toilet container that led to an advertisement. On December 19, climate activists, whose assembly was quickly dissolved by the police, demonstrated freenet.de .

safe events despite challenges

The Rhineland-Palatinate police rated the markets as exceptionally calm. During the entire event from November 28th to December 23rd, only minimal crimes were reported, including a case of negligent bodily harm on a carousel. Traffic safety controls led to 81 administrative offenses found, including an advertisement against an alcoholic driver. Thanks to the combination of a high number of visitors and efficient safety precautions, the Christmas markets were considered successful and provided a prime example of peaceful festivities.
