Fritz August Bittmann: A life's work for Meisenheim and the region
MEISENHEIM. A big loss for the BITO family! Fritz August Bittmann, the visionary mind behind the company, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, November 6, 2024, at the age of 88. After an impressive life journey, he not only leaves behind a flourishing company, but also a deep sadness among his employees and in the region.
Since 1959, the fourth generation of Bittmann has shaped BITO-Lagertechnik Bittmann GmbH. Originally founded in 1845 to produce hollow spheres for the jewelry industry, he transformed the company into an international player in intralogistics. Under his leadership, the number of employees grew from 40 to an impressive 1,330 worldwide, with locations in Meisenheim and Lauterecken as well as subsidiaries throughout Europe, Dubai, the USA and Canada. Bittmann's tireless commitment and sensitivity to customer needs made BITO one of the largest employers in the region.
A legacy of humanity
Bittmann was not only a successful entrepreneur, but also a person with a heart. His close connection to the region was reflected in his social commitment, particularly through the Bittmann Foundation he founded, which is committed to the education and health of children and young people. For his outstanding achievements, he received the Federal Cross of Merit in 2013 and was awarded the City Ring of Honor by the city of Meisenheim.
"Fritz August Bittmann was more than an owner. He was a role model in humanity and respect," said the BITO management. Even after his resignation as managing director in 2009, he remained closely connected to the company and ensured that the group remained on solid footing even after his death. His wife Sabine Bittmann and the management team will carry on his legacy and lead the values he embodied into the future. In these difficult times, the BITO Group's thoughts are with the Bittmann family and all those who were close to him.
