Cologne. A revolutionary step for small retailers! The Kreissparkasse Köln has now introduced a sensational innovation: From now on, kiosk operators and other businesses can accept girocard payments directly via their iPhone! This groundbreaking option is made possible by the innovative Tap to Pay function in conjunction with the “Sparkasse POS” (S-POS) app and is the first mobile acceptance solution in Germany that allows merchants to collect payments with the girocard.
The girocard, the most popular cashless payment method in Germany with an impressive 42.4% share of retail sales, is now becoming even more accessible. Udo Buschmann, corporate customer director at Kreissparkasse Köln, emphasizes: “Merchants can accept payments anywhere and at any time – without additional devices or complex terminal infrastructure.” This means that payments can be accepted not only at the checkout, but also anywhere in the store, at markets or even at the customer's home!
Simple, safe and fast!
With Tap to Pay, the customer simply holds their contactless girocard, iPhone or Apple Watch to the retailer's iPhone. The best part? No additional hardware is required! Payment is made via the secure NFC interface, with iPhone's built-in security features protecting company and customer data. Apple does not store card numbers, which guarantees the highest level of security.
Kreissparkasse Köln also makes it easier for retailers to enter the digital payment world: the bank provides contact with its partner PAYONE to agree on the acceptance of card payments. The technical setup on the iPhone can be completed in just a few minutes - paving the way for a modern payment system!
