Predatory attack in Stralsund: child threatened in shopping street!

Stralsund.A shocking incident occurred in the busy old town on Tuesday afternoon! A twelve-year-old boy was brutally attacked around 4:45 p.m. on Ossenreyerstrasse, the popular shopping street. Three unknown teenagers pushed him into a dark corner and held a knife to him to force him to hand over his wallet. The police describe this as predatory extortion.

The perpetrators were able to escape with less than 100 euros in loot after the victim handed over a wallet with a small double-digit amount of cash. The three suspects escaped undetected. The main perpetrator who wielded the knife was described as being around 17 years old, wearing white sweatpants, a black hoodie and worn sneakers. His accomplices appeared to be between 16 and 18 years old and were also wearing hoodies.

Ossenreyerstrasse: A hotspot for juvenile crime

Ossenreyerstrasse seems to be a recurring target for attacks. This area has been criticized several times in the past year because young people there were blamed for vandalism and threats. Residents had already raised the alarm in April 2023 and called for security measures to be tightened. The topic of safety in public spaces is also hotly debated among the citizens of Stralsund. CDU MP Ann-Christin von Allwörden has called for a comprehensive review of the possible introduction of video surveillance. According to a survey, more than half of participants feel safer with additional security cameras.
