ÖSV eagle beyond the goal: Tschofenig fights for 13th place!

Austria's ski jumpers experienced a sobering weekend at the second individual competition on the large hill in Wisla. Despite the ambitious goals, no ÖSV eagle was able to win a medal, and the best Austrian Daniel Tschofenig ended up in 13th place after jumping from 19th to 13th, which was an improvement, but not enough for the podium places. In the absence of Stefan Kraft, who was missing due to the impending birth of his first child, the ÖSV jumpers only had hope of a better place compared to the first round.

The competition was won by Slovenian Domen Prevc, who demonstrated his outstanding form and celebrated his tenth World Cup victory. Prevc jumped from fourth place to first in the final, leaving halftime leader Ryoyu Kobayashi behind by 0.9 points. Philipp Raimund from Germany completed the podium, 5.5 points behind the winner.

The placements of the ÖSV jumpers

After Tschofenig, who started as the defending champion in Lillehammer and won the opening competition there, Stephan Embacher followed as the second best Austrian in 8th place. Manuel Fettner, Jonas Schuster and Jan Hörl took places 18, 20 and 21. Tschofenig, who criticized his poor posture scores and difficulties at the table, ended up 20.9 points behind Prevc and missed the podium by just 1.9 points.

The Austrian Eagles must now look to the upcoming competitions to find their form and regain confidence in their abilities. While Tschofenig certainly still shows a lot of potential, it is now a matter of mastering the challenges of the upcoming competitions. The seasonal course is peppered with a look at the historical successes of Austrian ski jumping, such as the victories of Stefan Kraft in recent years. Kraft himself will certainly continue to serve as a role model and motivation for his teammates, even if he wasn't able to take part this time.

The question for spectators remains how the competition will develop over the course of the season and whether the Austrian ski jumpers will be able to return to the podium soon. The season looks promising and the experiences from Wisla will undoubtedly be incorporated into the next challenges.
