Recklinghausen: Fire brigade saves people from a burning basement!
On Wednesday evening, October 2, 2024, a demanding major exercise of the volunteer fire brigades took place in Recklinghausen, which was started at Castroper Strasse around 6:00 p.m. During the exercise, a scenario was simulated in which a basement fire broke out in a former office building that is currently being subjected to comprehensive core renovation. The aim of this special exercise was to train the emergency services in emergency situations with human rescue and improve their coordination.
The focus was on a basement fire in which two craftsmen considered missing. In addition, other people had to be saved from the upper floors whose escape routes were blocked by dense fire smoke. The challenge was not only in the fire fighting, but also in the simultaneous search and rescue of the missing. The emergency services worked promptly and structured. While some firefighters concentrated on the rescue of the two craftsmen in the basement, others saved the people from the upper floors using a turntable ladder and over the staircase.effective rescue measures
The exercise revealed the high professionalism of the forces used, which managed to find and free everyone involved. The goals of the exercise were fully achieved until 7:30 p.m. and the scenario was successfully mastered. Then there was a debriefing in which the individual measures were analyzed and possible improvements discussed.
It should be emphasized that this large exercise is known as a so-called three-train exercise in which the extinguishing trains south, speckhorn and Hochlar take part. This annual event was set up to strengthen the cooperation between the different units, since such common missions in the regular fire service rarely occur. This year the responsibility for the planning and coordination of the exercise at the comrades from the Speckhorn fire truck.
The head of the Recklinghausen fire brigade, Thorsten Schild, as well as representatives of the Committee on Order, Fire Brigade and Disaster Protection also took part in the exercise. This shows the city's commitment to support the efficiency and cooperation of its fire brigade. In particular, the company Bernemann was thanked for the provision of the exercise object, as this formed the framework for the realistic simulation of the operational situation.

The realistic imitation of potential disaster scenarios is fundamental for preparation for real missions, life rescue and the protection of property.
