New residential project in Attendorn: A home for people with disabilities!

The foundation stone was recently laid in the heart of Attendorn for an important residential project aimed specifically at people with intellectual disabilities. Together with the specialist service focus network for life and living of the Caritas Association Olpe, a time capsule and the first walls of the new residential complex were inaugurated. This event not only symbolizes the start of a new chapter in the lives of future residents, but also a valuable improvement in the quality of life for them and their relatives.

Much construction progress is already visible; the floor slab has been created and the staircase with an elevator shaft is also in progress. Excitingly, the majority of the building is constructed of solid wood, which is not only modern but also sustainable. The complex will include seven apartments as well as two four-person living groups and one three-person living group and can accommodate up to 21 people.

A well thought-out concept for more independence

The innovative living concept promotes a safe and supportive environment that strengthens the independence of future residents. The shared apartments represent a valuable addition to the Caritas Association's existing offerings and can also be linked to outpatient assistance services for the disabled for other target groups.

The new residential complex, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the Allee-Center, represents an integrative living concept. It offers a balance between outpatient care and a sense of community, which is strengthened by communal spaces and gardens. This is of great importance as it not only provides residents with a home, but also promotes social interaction and participation in community life.

The roots of this project go back over two decades. It all started with the purchase of a property on Grafweg. Lothar Epe, Chairman of the Caritas Council, reported in his welcoming remarks about the initial plans, which have been revised several times over the years. After the old building was demolished, the novel concept finally took shape and can now become a reality.

The realization of this project is not only a further step towards integration and self-determination for people with disabilities, but also a sign of the Caritas Association's commitment to improving the living conditions of people in the region. Future residents can look forward to a homely, attractive environment that meets their needs and at the same time offers incentives to participate in social life.
