New residential project in Hamm: Families with disabilities find a home!

in Hamm, North Rhine-Westphalia, a groundbreaking residential project is created that should enable parents with disabilities to live a self-determined life! The first of a total of 12 families will be moved into a currently overgrown property in two years. The plans for the modern, flat buildings are already in full swing and promise an innovative form of living that has never existed in NRW!

Unique concept for affected families

Mayor Marc Herter is enthusiastic about this project, which not only focuses on children with restrictions, but also focuses on the needs of parents with disabilities. "We think of families who are faced with various challenges," he explains. Jennifer Buhla from the association "Volle Kraft Humanity" (VKM) emphasizes that the parents live here in their own apartments while they receive the necessary support at the same time. The concept of outpatient intensive care ensures that professional care is available around the clock, be it through pediatric nurses or social workers.

The city of Hamm consciously chose this project in order not to just create living space on the fallow land. City building council Andreas Mentz emphasizes that the situation is ideal: "There is everything you need - shops, schools, a park, everything within walking distance!" This shows the clear needs that are already occupied by numerous inquiries from those affected and institutions such as the youth welfare office and the LWL.

Building plans and time frame

The building permit is expected for November, and the first excavators are scheduled to move in the coming summer. The hope of those involved is great that the first families can move in at the end of 2027. With 15 new positions that are created, this project will not only benefit the families concerned, but also the entire community in Hamm!
