On the night of April 12, 2025, there was a serious traffic accident on the L636 near Bad Wünnenberg-Haaren, in which two young adults were critically injured. The 20-year-old driver and his 20-year-old passenger were in a VW Caddy when, for unknown reasons, the car veered off the road to the right in a slight left-hand bend and collided with a tree. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was subsequently thrown back onto the road, highlighting the seriousness of the accident.
Rescue measures were initiated immediately. The driver was flown by rescue helicopter to a hospital in Kassel, while the passenger was also transported by helicopter to a hospital in Dortmund. At the time the injuries were reported, it could not be ruled out that both occupants' lives were in danger. Fortunately, there was no evidence of alcohol or drug use on the part of the driver, and no signs of wildlife crossing or another vehicle were found to be the cause of the accident.
Police investigation and vehicle damage
The police have started an investigation into the accident and seized two cell phones in order to clarify possible other factors. The VW Caddy, which was badly damaged in the accident, had to be towed away. The costs of the various damages amount to around 25,500 euros.
