Complete closure of the A1: blowing up the Liedbachtal bridge causes chaos!

There will soon be massive traffic disruptions on the A1 motorway between Dortmund and Unna! Motorists have to prepare for two full closures caused by a spectacular blowing up of the old Liedbachtal bridge. On Sundays, November 17th and December 1st, the busy route will be closed in order to safely dismantle the bridge. The work begins at 8 a.m. and ends on November 17th at around 10 p.m. An absolute must for all road users commuting between these two cities!

But that's not all! The demolition on December 1st will even lead to an extended full closure - the A1 will no longer be passable between the Dortmund/Unna intersection and the Westhofener intersection from November 29th. Construction work is scheduled to continue until 5 a.m. the following Monday morning, December 2nd. Deutsche Bahn is also planning construction work nearby, which could further aggravate the situation. In order to avoid traffic chaos, Autobahn GmbH and Deutsche Bahn are in talks to coordinate the work.

Detours for drivers

Autobahn GmbH has already announced that it will set up extensive diversions on the A2 and A45 to divert traffic. These diversions will be signposted in good time, but drivers should be aware that there have been repeated restrictions on the A45 since December 2021 due to bridge construction work. It is therefore advisable to allow enough time for the journey and to find out about alternative routes in good time.

This situation will be a real challenge for commuters between Dortmund and Unna! There have been restrictions on rail traffic around Unna since last week, as rail replacement services are almost exclusively used there. In addition, an impending strike by Ver.di could also have an impact on rail traffic. The coming weeks promise real traffic chaos!
