Sturm warning for Dortmund: Christmas market in danger?
Dortmund.Dortmund is facing a stormy weekend that threatens the festive atmosphere at the Christmas market! With wind gusts that can reach speeds of up to 80 km/h, the question arises: does the Christmas market have to close?
On Friday, the sky over Dortmund becomes dark and rainy, which clouds the anticipation of mulled wine and festive delicacies. The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of falling branches and objects flying around. Christmas decorations outdoors should urgently be secured, otherwise the Christmas figures like Rudolf will fly through the air!
Christmas market in danger? Organizer remains calm
But the organizer Patrick Arens is optimistic. "We are here in the middle of the city center, so no event in the open space. As long as the city center is on, we will also stop," he explains. The security concept of the Dortmund Christmas city stipulates that the stands remain stable, even in stormy weather. "We expected everything so that it cannot fall over," emphasizes Arens. The showmen are on site and ready to intervene immediately should something happen.
The city could close facilities such as zoos, playgrounds and schools in extreme weather conditions, but Arens is convinced that the current situation is not exceptional. "We already had other storms that were worse than what is coming now," he says. While snow may fall in higher altitudes, the weather in Dortmund remains cloudy and rainy, with temperatures between three and nine degrees. The anticipation for the Christmas market remains despite the storm warning!
