Bielefeld – A dramatic collision! On Saturday evening, November 16, 2024, there was a crash on Jöllenbecker Straße in Schildesche. A car driven by a 49-year-old woman from Bielefeld and a tram on line 3 collided violently. The result? Minor injuries for the driver and her seven-year-old son! Their safety was quickly ensured by rescue workers, who immediately transported them to outpatient treatment. The shock was deep!
The accident occurred around 5:25 p.m. when the light rail driver was traveling at high speed towards Babenhausen Süd after leaving the Lange Straße stop. Suddenly the woman from Bielefeld turned left in her Opel Crossland into Schelpsheide - and the inevitable crash occurred! The tram was only able to slow down slightly and pushed the Opel several meters in front of it until it finally came to a stop across Jöllenbecker Straße.
High property damage!
The material damage caused is enormous! With an estimated 13,000 euros, the total damage amounts to a whopping 10,000 euros for the SUV that was driven over, which was unable to drive after the accident. A tow truck had to arrive to remove the damaged Opel. Despite the vehicle in front, the light rail was ready to move and drove into the depot without further incident. This meant chaos for other car traffic: police forces had to redirect traffic from both directions. The accident site was reopened to traffic around 6:35 p.m.!
