The Bedburg-Hau Volunteer Fire Department has lost one of its most loyal comrades. Chief firefighter Heinrich Remmen died on October 4, 2024 at the age of 86. His connection to the fire department began back in 1958 when he joined the Hasselt unit at the age of 19 and dedicated his life to serving the community.
Over the years, Remmen served a remarkable 66 years in the volunteer fire department, where he worked tirelessly to protect and serve the public. For his services, he was awarded both the silver and gold fire brigade decorations of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. These awards reflect not only his longstanding membership, but also his commitment and loyalty to the fire department.
A life of devotion
After leaving active service in 1998, he joined the fire department's retirement and honor department. It was a time in which he continued to be a valued member of the fire service community. In 2018 he received a special honor for his 60 years of service to the volunteer fire department. This shows that his dedication and commitment to the fire department did not go unnoticed and is recognized throughout the community.
