Rheinbach's mayor Ludger Banken announces withdrawal: A farewell with vision!
A surprising confession from the town hall! Mayor Ludger Banken has announced that he will not stand for another term. This decision comes just a year before the end of his current term and is causing a stir in the city. Banken, who has always been committed to the development and well-being of his city, explains that this decision was anything but easy for him.
In his emotional statement, Banken highlighted the enormous challenges the city has faced over the past four years. From the corona pandemic to the devastating flood disaster to the effects of the war in Ukraine - the list of crises is long. “We had to deal with a lot of things ad hoc and set the basic course,” said Banken. Despite the progress already made, he emphasizes that the implementation of the projects will take a long time, probably even beyond the next legislative period.
Health reasons and continuity
The task of moving the city forward is exciting, but requires a lot of strength and good health. “After careful consideration, unfortunately I no longer trust myself to do this for health reasons,” he admits. Banken is aware that the implementation of the established principles requires continuity, which it can no longer guarantee. Nevertheless, he promises to finish his term of office with full vigor by October 31, 2025.
He would like to say a big thank you to everyone with whom he has been able to work together over the past few years. “Let’s achieve a lot of good things for our Rheinbach together next year!” he calls out, leaving a lasting impression on the city.
