Traditional slaughterhouse Römmling in Wolfenbüttel will soon close!

The Römmling Land Schlacherei in the Wolfenbüttel district is in front of the final. The traditional company, which was founded by Schlachter Arnecke in Dettum in 1892, has announced its closure in the coming weeks. The slaughterhouse has been located since it was founded at Hauptstraße 5 in Evessen.

After Karl Römmling Senior married to the company in 1919 and took over the slaughterhouse, it was later continued by his son Karl Römmling Junior and then by his widow Gisela. Axel Römmling has been the head of the company since 1994. A serious accident two years ago, in which Axel Römmling was seriously injured by a young bull, led to persistent health difficulties. Despite the originally planned continuation of the company over a year to two years, the slaughterhouse will close its doors on January 31.

historical development of the Römmling slaughterhouse

The structure and long history of the company are further illustrated by the events passed over the years. As reported on the website of the Römmling land slaughterhouse, Karl Römmling Senior took over the business in 1919 after his marriage before his son Karl Römmling Junior took over the management. After the death of Karl Römmling Junior in 1975, his widow Gisela took responsibility before her son Axel led the slaughterhouse in 1994. Filiales have also been opened in Wittmar and Schöppenstedt over the years. The company received the EU approval as a slaughterhouse in 2010 and Axel Römmling selected the cattle directly from the farmer and processes the animals themselves.

The closure of the Römmling land slaughterhouse marks the end of a 133-year history in Evessen, which was shaped by family tradition and manual skills.
