Jannik Sinner: The new tennis king and Boris Becker's hymn of praise!

The three-time Wimbledon winner Boris Becker celebrated a special event in Turin: He honored the Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner, who has made a name for himself as number one in the world! Sinner, who is only 23 years old, dethroned the Serbian tennis giant Novak Djokovic in June and thus climbed to the top of the world rankings. In an impressive season, the South Tyrolean secured two Grand Slam titles: the Australian Open and the US Open. A real triumph for the young star!

“To be honest, I’m not really surprised,” said Becker about Sinner’s rise. His determination is exceptional and Becker is convinced that Sinner can stay at the top for a long time. The 56-year-old Becker, himself a former tennis world champion, was celebrated at the honor by the enthusiastic spectators in the almost full hall. Together with ATP boss Andrea Gaudenzi, he presented the award and recalled his own “childhood dream” of becoming number one in 1991.

A shadow over success

But despite the fame, a dark shadow hovers over Sinner's career. Although he was acquitted after two positive doping tests, he still faces a ban. The World Anti-Doping Agency WADA has lodged an appeal with the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne. Sinner, who started the year-end tournament in Turin on Sunday evening with a clear two-set win against the Australian Alex de Minaur, now faces a decisive challenge. On Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. (Sky) he will meet the American Taylor Fritz, where he can underline his role as favorite. An exciting duel is coming!
