Oldenburg.Kale is the star of the season! Oldenburg celebrated winter vegetables with a grandiose festival at the weekend. Numerous visitors gathered at the town hall market to enjoy the delicious vegetables in a variety of ways - and not just traditionally!
The city kicked off kale season with a fireworks display of flavors! From classic dishes with boiled potatoes, cooked sausage, Pinkel and Kassler to creative reinterpretations such as kale burgers, pesto and even sushi - there is something for everyone here. And the best part? For those thirsty palates, there's kale beer and kale gin, which will make the festival even more sparkling!
A festival full of enjoyment and information
But the festival didn't just offer culinary delights. The university's botanical garden proudly presented the Oldenburg palm, a special variety of kale, and provided information about organic kale breeding. Anyone who thought kale was only for the palate has been proven wrong! Wellness fans were able to pamper themselves with a kale peeling or a kale massage oil. Oldenburg proves itself to be the true culinary capital of kale and brings the vegetable into the wellness oasis!
Every year the “Hello Kale” festival is celebrated on the first Sunday in November to celebrate the start of the season. Kale is not only a treat, but also a real powerhouse: it is one of the most protein-rich vegetables and is rich in minerals. With this festival, Oldenburg has once again proven that kale is much more than just a winter vegetable!
