Jet ski drama in the Gifhorn district: Fire brigade rescues man from emergency!

There was a tense incident in the Gifhorn district that kept everyone involved on tenterhooks. A 53-year-old man who was simply planning to warm up his jet ski's engine for an upcoming oil change found himself in an unforeseen emergency. The incident occurred on Saturday October 5th when the jet ski got into trouble on the Mittelland Canal near the footbridge between Wedelheine and Wedesbüttel.

The emergency call was made to the fire department at 1:25 p.m. after concerned residents heard the driver's cries for help. Before this point, at 1:15 p.m., the jet ski driver had started his excursion, but it quickly became clear that the jet ski's engine failed for unknown reasons. As a result, the man could no longer control the watercraft and drifted helplessly in the middle of the canal.

Incident on the Mittelland Canal

The fire department immediately arrived with an inflatable boat to help the driver who had an accident. Torben Niehs, spokesman for the Gifhorn district fire department, reported on the dramatic situation caused by the engine failure. Thanks to the quick intervention of the emergency services, the rescue ultimately went without any major complications. The firefighters managed to pull the jet ski driver to the sheet pile wall and bring him to safety.

An emergency doctor was also on site to examine the driver for possible injuries. The jet ski was then towed to the slipway, where initial technical examinations of the water sports equipment could be carried out. The incident shows how quickly a leisure activity can turn into a critical situation, which once again underlines the importance of a well-functioning emergency infrastructure.
