Dogs in Diepholz cemeteries? SPD urgently calls for change!
The Diepholz SPD is pushing for a reform of the current cemetery statutes to allow dogs access to cemeteries. The stay of dogs, with the exception of service dogs, is currently prohibited in the cemeteries in Diepholz. According to the SPD, this regulation no longer meets the current needs of citizens.
Group spokesman Ingo Estermann emphasizes that the existing regulation does not do justice to many citizens. The SPD also wants dogs to be allowed to be taken into cemeteries on a leash in the future. SPD councilor Manfred Albers adds that visiting a grave site is not incompatible with a dog walk. In view of the difficulties in enforcing the current dog ban, the SPD sees a need for action.
Current rules and amendment request
The application to change the cemetery statutes was sent to Mayor Florian Marré. The current passage in the statutes reads: “It is not permitted to bring animals into the cemetery with the exception of guide dogs.” The proposed amendment would change this passage to: "It is not permitted to bring animals into the cemetery, except dogs. Dogs must be kept on a leash."
Further information about the regulations can be found in the Diepholz cemetery regulations to read. According to the District newspaper The application to change the statutes will be discussed at the next meeting.
