New hospital in East Frisia: 800 beds for 800 million euros!

In a groundbreaking step for healthcare in Lower Saxony, a new central clinic is being built in East Frisia! The groundbreaking ceremony took place today at 2:30 p.m. in the municipality of Südbrookmerland (Aurich district) and was attended by high-ranking guests, including Lower Saxony's Health Minister Andreas Philippi (SPD) as well as representatives of the district and the city of Emden. This clinic, which will be equipped with around 800 beds, is a significant project that is intended to revolutionize the hospital landscape in the region.

Gigantic investment for the future

The total cost of construction is almost 800 million euros, with around 460 million euros coming from federal and state funds. This immense investment shows how important the new central clinic is for medical care in the region. The building is scheduled to be built on a green meadow in Georgsheil by the end of the current decade and is being planned by the East Frisian hospital association Aurich-Emden-Norden. The existing clinics in Aurich, Emden and Norden will be replaced by this new facility, which could significantly increase the efficiency and quality of healthcare.

The project was not without controversy. The necessity and location of the central clinic were voted on in two referendums, which heated up tempers in the region. Nevertheless, the decision has been made and preparations for construction are in full swing. Similar central clinics are also being planned in other parts of Lower Saxony, such as in the Heidekreis and the Diepholz district, which indicates a clear trend towards centralization of hospital care.
