New insights on the fatal sailing accident on Lake Constance!

Münsterlingen, Schweiz - On the last weekend in November 2024, a tragic sailing accident occurred on Lake Constance when a boat capsized in front of Münsterlingen. The two sailors, a 38-year-old German and a 39-year-old Brit, were finally recovered dead after they had been missing for several hours. The men were on the way to the renowned "Regatta of the Iron", which then had to be canceled. In order to find the missing sailors, a large-scale search and rescue mission was launched in which rescue workers from Austria, Germany and Switzerland were involved, as the Thurgauer Zeitung reported.

Investigations clarify the cause of death

The Constance public prosecutor has now published new knowledge about the course of the accident. The examination of the boat showed no evidence of a technical defect. "Repairs were literally carried out," said the expert according to ORF Vorarlberg. Furthermore, there are no indications of a third -party fault on the caps of the boat. The forensic examination has shown that the death of the two sailors occurred by drowning in allegedly unconscious condition due to hypothermia.

The men had prepared for the big winter regatta, in which more than 220 boats take part every year. The misfortune has caused grief among the organizers and the sailing community and brought the safety on the waters into focus again. The exact cause of the misfortune remains a sad mystery despite the investigations and studies that raise many questions.
