Munich is planning free balance bikes for seniors – more mobility for everyone!
The Munich Greens have brought a revolutionary idea into play: free balance bikes for seniors! This innovative measure is intended to offer people with limited mobility more freedom and accessibility in the Bavarian capital. If walking becomes torture, a stroll through the city or a walk in the Olympic Park could soon become much easier.
The town hall faction of the Greens - Pink List has submitted an application that envisages the introduction of balance bikes at several locations in Munich. These balance bikes, usually used by children, are now also available for adults. The highlight? They don't have pedals! This means that even people who are a little unsteady on their feet can easily maintain their balance. “That makes it interesting for people with limited mobility,” emphasizes the group.
An offer for everyone
The planned rental of balance bikes is intended to expand the existing offering at Marienhof, the Olympic Park and the Hellabrunn Zoo. Four-wheeled electric vehicles can already be rented free of charge at these locations. “The more dynamic balance bikes, which are light and easy to ride, are a perfect complement,” said the Greens. We are also considering offering the balance bikes at cemeteries to make access easier for older people.
City councilor Sofie Langmeier emphasizes: “Lead bikes for adults are cheap to buy and bring great added value for people who are not good at walking: being able to travel independently and safely.” A step in the right direction for more mobility and quality of life in Munich!
