Mülheim honors Knut Binnewerg: New path for a Styrum role model!
Mülheim.A small path in Styrum will soon have a big name! The city of Mülheim honors the unforgettable Knut Binnewerg, who founded the citizens' bus in Styrum and worked tirelessly for his district. The narrow path, which runs only 160 meters between Albertstrasse and Marktstrasse, will in future be known as “Knut-Binnewerg-Weg”.
This inconspicuous path leads to important places such as the Brothers Grimm School, the social agency and a small park. But the meaning of this path is taken to a new level by the naming. Knut Binnewerg, who died in July at the age of 75, was district mayor from 1999 to 2009 and left a lasting impression as a critical, fair and open politician. “He was a companion, neighbor and friend,” said the current district mayor Heinz-Werner Czeczatka-Simon in a moving memory of the deceased.
Naming streets as a sign of thanks
The decision to name the path was made unanimously by the district council last Monday. The CDU, Greens and SPD factions agree: “A naming after him is an appropriate way to honor his commitment.” Knut Binnewerg not only initiated the citizens' bus, but also created the previously nameless connection route. This honor recognizes his tireless commitment to the community and will be remembered for generations to come.
