Military exercise over northwest Mecklenburg: Loud splashing of airplanes in the sky!

On Thursday evening, many people in northwest Mecklenburg looked anxiously at the night sky as the booming sounds of military aircraft broke the silence. These loud sounds came from a military exercise that took place over Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Curious people could only follow what was happening using flight radar apps on their smartphones or computers, because the machines could not be seen with the naked eye.

Flying high with impressive machines

As part of the exercise “MAGDAY” - the acronym stands for Multinational Air Group - impressive aircraft such as the Airbus A400M Atlas and the Airbus A330 MRTT from the Royal Netherlands Air Force were used. The latter is a military model of the A330 specially equipped for aerial refueling and transport. The Bundeswehr also took part in the night flight exercise with an Airbus A400M Atlas, which took place at altitudes of around 4,800 to 6,000 meters over the northwest district.

According to the Bundeswehr, the “MAGDAY” exercises are national training days for the Air Force and the Multinational Air Group, which have been carried out four times a year since 2019 in cooperation with other, including non-NATO, nations. These exercises are crucial for military cooperation and air force readiness in Europe.
