Traffic light government at the end: Coming about new elections and the AfD future!
Enrico Komning, a prominent AfD politician, discussed the upcoming elections and the future of German politics in a sensational interview. “The traffic lights are history,” he confidently announces, suggesting that the current government cannot last much longer. The AfD sees itself as the only force that can change the course of politics, especially when it comes to energy, the economy and migration, which it believes are just a continuation of the CDU's policies under Angela Merkel.
With a view to the current poll numbers, which see the CDU under Friedrich Merz at the top, Komning expresses concerns that a new government will not bring any fundamental changes. “Merz has made it clear that he wants to govern with the SPD or the Greens,” he says and categorically rules out cooperation with the AfD. He criticizes the constant focus on right-wing extremist members like Björn Höcke and emphasizes that the AfD acts pragmatically and strategically, regardless of the prejudices that exist against them.
The firewall is falling!
Komning sees the “firewall” between the AfD and other parties, especially in eastern Germany, as fragile. “I believe that the firewall here in the east will come down sooner or later,” he explains, referring to the upcoming state elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. With poll numbers of 28 percent for the AfD and only 23 percent for the SPD, he sees the possibility of a “blue-black” coalition that could revolutionize the political landscape. “We want to be the senior partners,” he emphasizes, believing that such a coalition could show that the world will not end when the AfD is in power.
When asked about a possible party ban for the AfD, Komning is optimistic: "I don't think there will be a ban. Our constitution is strong enough to protect us." He sees the AfD as a defender of freedom and criticizes state interventionism that restricts citizens' personal freedoms. “We are experiencing a leveling off that we have already experienced in the East,” he says and appeals to citizens to remain vigilant.
