Mannheim is left out: These cities will host the 2027 World Cup!
The anticipation for the 2027 Handball World Cup in Germany is increasing! The German Handball Association (DHB) has now announced the six venues for the big event. The World Cup will take place in the vibrant cities of Mannheim, Hanover, Kiel, Cologne, Magdeburg, Munich and Stuttgart. A big surprise: Mannheim falls by the wayside this time!
With this selection of cities, the DHB promises a spectacular event full of tradition and football enthusiasm. “These venues combine a lot of what defines us,” emphasized DHB President Andreas Michelmann. The backdrops are perfect for the competitive spirit as they are all known for their impressive handball history. The preliminary rounds will take place in Munich, while the main round will take place in Cologne. The Cologne Arena is known for its impressive attendance of almost 20,000 enthusiastic fans who will support the German handball temple in the decisive games.
A real handball festival!
The excitement is great, while national coach Alfred Gislason is already dreaming of a big handball festival, similar to the home European Championships in January. "There is no nation that can do this better than Germany. Everyone in the world knows that," explained Gislason. He is eagerly awaiting the start of the first games on January 13th or 14th, 2027, with the spectacular finale on January 31st.
By holding the World Cup, Germany is consolidating its role as a handball-loving nation, which has already hosted several times. In their history, they have already successfully held the Men's World Cup in 1938, 1958, 1961, 1974, 1982, 2007 and 2019. The upcoming games will not only thrill fans domestically, but will also attract an international audience looking forward to world-class handball sport in a country full of planning strength and tradition!
