Lübeck coach Lars Hopp in action as a FIFA expert in Uzbekistan!
Lübeck.A new chapter begins for Lars Hopp! The 48-year-old former assistant coach of VfB Lübeck, who achieved promotion to the 3rd league with his team in the summer of 2023, is now pulling international strings as a FIFA expert. After his release on December 11, 2023, Hopp built a career in football that opened up many opportunities. No time for sadness – the German-Norwegian welcomes the challenge!
As a “Technical Expert” at FIFA, Hopp is focused on improving international competitiveness before the 2026 World Cup. With his UEFA Pro license, he brings extensive expertise, which he is now applying to a wide variety of countries. “FIFA has started a program that helps associations to apply and get a technical expert on site,” explains Hopp. He will optimize the structures, train coaches and support U national teams.
Hopp sees “huge potential” in Uzbekistan
The first destination of his exciting journey is Uzbekistan! After a successful inaugural visit, which lasted ten days, Hopp is planning further missions, starting in January. Uzbekistan just scored a remarkable World Cup qualifying win against the United Arab Emirates 1-0. In collaboration with coaching legend Arsene Wenger, Hopp becomes part of the “Talent Development Scheme” and sees enormous potential in this “sleeping giant” who is starting to wake up. "There is huge potential here. They have 14 regional association academies," enthuses Hopp.
The Uzbekistan national team is heading to the World Cup and the U23 is showing excellent performances at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Hopp also remains connected to VfB Lübeck and is still in close contact with old acquaintances. Maybe a talent from Tashkent could find its way to Lübeck? The future holds exciting possibilities!
