The technology revolution is in full swing, and the cloud is becoming the scene of the action! According to the brand new “KPMG Cloud Monitor” 2024, a shocking 98 percent of German companies surveyed can be found in the cloud! A phenomenal change that has taken the digital business world by storm!
The study shows that 97 percent of companies that use cloud services already rely on artificial intelligence (AI) from cloud providers. The decline in traditional data centers is remarkable – only 26 percent now rely on these old technologies for their AI solutions! The age of the cloud has officially taken over!
Back to the cloud!
More and more companies are recognizing the advantages: 55 percent are relying on hybrid cloud strategies that combine the flexibility of public and private clouds. Security is key: Over 57 percent of companies aim to improve their IT security through cloud use. Cost optimization and digital transformation are also essential goals for almost half of those surveyed. At an impressive 52 percent, the majority even practice a cloud-first strategy!
Security and performance are the top priority when selecting a cloud provider. The results are truly overwhelming - 70 percent of companies weigh this heavily in their decision, and 69 percent attach great importance to security and compliance. 58 percent also prefer providers with data centers in the EU jurisdiction.
Cloud cost reduction and sustainable perspectives
The advantages of the cloud are clear! 67 percent of companies report significant cost savings. Nevertheless, there are also companies that complain about rising IT costs - 21 percent of large companies are struggling with this dilemma. But that doesn't stop 58 percent from investing over half of their IT budget in the cloud!
And the topic of ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance) is becoming increasingly important! 77 percent of companies consider ESG aspects to be important for their cloud use. Over 84 percent of large companies with over 5,000 employees define ESG as a decisive factor!
The KPMG Cloud Monitor is a significant indicator of digital transformation in Germany and makes the future appear bright! The survey covered 503 companies with more than 50 employees and was conducted between June and July 2024. The detailed results are of course available!
