Climbing in the Elbe sandstone: New calendar delights mountain lovers!

Bad Schandau. The countdown is running! Climbers, mountaineers and nature lovers can rejoice: the new calendar “Climbing in the Elbe Sandstone” for 2025 is finally here! For the 29th time, the talented photographer Mike Jäger from Schmilka has compiled his best photos of the impressive rock world in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and published them in a unique calendar. The front of each sheet features a stunning photo, while the back is filled with exciting stories written by various authors.

In January and February everything revolves around the fascinating origins and meaning of the Saxon climbing rules. These rules, which have stipulated free climbing without artificial aids since 1910, are a trademark of Saxon mountaineering and also protect the sensitive rock biotopes. From March 2024, “Saxon mountaineering” will even be recognized as an intangible cultural heritage – one more reason to celebrate this calendar!

A look at the highlights

The impressive photos are the heart of the calendar: whether climbing on the Liliensteinnadel, the Rauschenstein or the Mönch - every month offers a new visual experience. Particularly noteworthy is the May sheet, which shows the picturesque Malý Pravčický kužel in Hřensko. On the back, readers learn more about Mike Jäger, whose haunting forest fire photo from 2022 was named press photo of the year - an image that impressively documents the devastating consequences of the fire.

The calendar, which is available in A4 format (24 cm × 34 cm), can be ordered directly from Verlag Jäger. The price of ten euros plus shipping costs is a small gift for all those who appreciate the beauty of the Elbe sandstone and the stories of its climbers. If you would like to find out more about past calendar images, you will find a wealth of information on the publisher's homepage.
