Get vaccinated now: How to protect yourself from the flu!
The flu is just around the corner! A runny nose, hoarseness and a scratchy throat are often the first signs of a flu-like infection. But if there is a high fever and a severe cough, it could be the dangerous influenza. This serious illness can lead to serious complications, especially in older people and those with previous illnesses. Dr. Sophie Ruhrmann, medical director of the health department, warns: "Vaccination is effective protection. In particular, those with previous illnesses and people aged 60 and over should be vaccinated against influenza annually." Now, before winter, is the perfect time to do it!
Vaccination for all risk groups
But that's not all! Pregnant women should also get vaccinated to minimize the risk of serious illness. The Standing Vaccination Commission also recommends flu vaccination for medical and nursing staff as well as everyone who is in close contact with other people. Health department head Frank Ide has already taken the initiative and gotten vaccinated. He emphasizes: “Anyone who gets vaccinated not only protects themselves from a serious course, but also others.” Vaccinated people help reduce the spread of infections and protect risk groups from serious complications.
Because flu viruses constantly mutate, annual vaccination is essential. The district administration in Giessen is offering flu vaccinations for its employees for the seventh time. If you would like to get a flu vaccination, you can do so in many general practices and specialist practices. And don't forget: Corona vaccination is also recommended, especially for people aged 60 and over and people at increased risk of a severe course of COVID-19. Further information about vaccinations can be found on the website of the Federal Center for Health Education at www.infectionprotection.de.
