Vaccination against TBE: This is how Carinthia protects against dangerous ticks!

An important vaccination campaign against the dangers of TBE, the virus that is transmitted by ticks and can lead to severe inflammation of the brain and spinal cord, begins tomorrow in Carinthia. Health officer Gerda Sandriesser emphasized that the region is considered a high-risk area, which is why vaccination is urgently recommended for the population. The vaccinations will take place every Thursday in the town hall from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. until the end of June. In order to minimize waiting times, those interested can easily book their appointments online or by telephone at 04242/205-2525 or on the website villach.at/stadt-service/gesundheit, like klick-kaernten.at reported.

How pharmazeutische-zeitung.de explains, the TBE disease rate was alarmingly high last year, with a total of 686 reported cases - the second highest number since data collection began in 2001. The Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) recommends basic immunization with three vaccinations, whereby the first should be carried out now in order to minimize the dangers of the virus. If the risk of infection continues, a refresher treatment after three years is recommended. This worrying increase in infections has led many experts to classify the whole of Germany as a potential risk area. There is therefore a clear need to increase vaccination rates in affected areas in order to protect the population from the serious consequences of disease transmission.
