Fraud case in Marburg: Beware of fake fundraisers!
Marburg. The police are sounding the alarm! With Christmas approaching, there are more fundraisers out and about again - but not all of them have good intentions! The Central Hesse Police Headquarters warns against criminal activities that hide behind the guise of charity.
On Friday, November 8th, there was a suspected case of fraud in the Erlenring cafeteria. At around 3 p.m., an unknown man approached a group of four people and presented an appeal for donations for “deaf and mute people.” The bona fide donors gave him a total of 25 euros. It was only later, when the group searched for information online, that they realized they might have been taken in by a scammer. The suspect had already fled when an alert student informed the police.
The suspect in focus
The police describe the man they are looking for as around 25 years old, between 1.75 and 1.80 meters tall with a southern appearance. He had short black hair that was shaved on the sides and was wearing a black bomber jacket over a white shirt, black pants and dark sneakers. This description could be crucial to catching him!
The police give important tips to protect yourself from such fraudsters: Ask to be shown a donation collector's card, which is only valid in conjunction with an identity card. Be skeptical and don't let yourself be put under pressure! Think carefully about who you trust with your money. Keep an eye on your valuables and avoid physical contact. In case of suspicion, inform the police immediately! The police in Marburg will receive information about the wanted person on the telephone number 0 64 21 / 40 60.
