Hanau - Fulda railway line: General renovation ensures five months of traffic jam!

The rail connection between Hanau and Fulda faces a comprehensive general renovation, which is to be carried out from August 2027 to January 2028. These measures primarily affect the section from Gelnhausen to Eichenzell and are part of a larger project to modernize the infrastructure in the region. This information was published in a non-public meeting of the dialogue forum for the exit and new line, which recently took place in Schluechtern.

in Gelnhausen has been running preliminary work for new passenger underpass at the train station since the beginning of the year, while a provisional transfer will be made available until the final commissioning of the section of the route at the end of 2027. According to the train employees, the legal planning in the Hailer/Meerholz section is expected to be completed at the end of 2024, with construction work that is supposed to start a year later.

Deutsche Bahn has announced that the Hanau-Fulda existing route will be extensively renovated in two sections. The first section between Gelnhausen and Flieden begins on August 16, 2027, and the completion is planned for January 28, 2028. Afterwards the second section between Flieden and Eichenzell will be tackled on October 15, 2027 and also completed by January 28, 2028.

During this five-month blocking of the Kinztal-Bahn line, extensive sound insulation measures are also to be implemented. In certain areas such as Mittelkalbach, Gelnhausen and the districts of Haitz and Höchst, active soundproofing measures such as walls are intended. For other, less affected areas, passive solutions, such as noise protection windows, are planned.

These measures are part of a strategic infrastructure development that aims to increase the number of passenger. In the future, up to 150 trains a day and 60 night trains should use the new route. These developments are particularly important for the entire transport infrastructure in the Kinzigtal region and increase the attractiveness of rail traffic.

Deutsche Bahn is currently also working on discussions with the affected municipalities to discuss further sound insulation measures. This is done in the context of noise renovation in places such as Biebergemünd and Wächtersbach as well as the surrounding communities.
