Southern Hesse flashes: Police hunt speeders for more safety!

Alarm in southern Hesse! On November 14, 2024, the police will launch a large-scale blitz operation under the motto “South Hesse blitzes”. From Thursday morning at 6 a.m. to Friday morning at 6 a.m., officers will be hunting for speeders in the districts of Groß-Gerau, Darmstadt-Dieburg, Bergstrasse, as well as in the Odenwald district and the city of Darmstadt. The aim is to wake up road users and make them aware of the dangers of excessive speed.

The frightening numbers speak for themselves: In 2023, 30 people lost their lives in traffic accidents in southern Hesse and 597 were seriously injured. What is particularly alarming is that speed played a role in almost one in three serious or fatal accidents. The police feel it is their duty to intervene here and to send a clear signal with the “South Hesse Blitzt” campaign. Despite the tragic consequences, many road users view speed checks critically and doubt their usefulness.

An appeal to all road users

The police call on all road users to be aware of their responsibility and to strictly adhere to the speed limits. Because the focus of all measures is safety on the roads and therefore the quality of life for everyone. The campaign is not only intended to save lives, but also to contribute to respectful and safe coexistence on the road. Police spokesman Sebastian Trapmann will shortly be available with an original sound to underline the importance of these measures.
