Hurricanes celebrate home game: Youngster left shines!
In an exciting duel between the 2nd Bundesliga, the Avides Hurricanes in Rotenburg celebrated their first win of the season. Last Saturday they defeated the Eimsbütteler TV with 58:52. Despite the failure of her center Keowa Walters, the team managed to convince, especially thanks to the strong performances of Sam Deem, Anna Suckstorff and the young talent Luise Linke.
The focus was on 16-year-old Luise Linke, who was not only on the field in the second half, but also contributed eight points and six rebounds. Coach Christian Greve praised her performance: "She did it well, so I can live very well with." It was a remarkable appearance for such a young talent in adult basketball.a surprise on the bench
Another important moment was the substitution of Katharina Newton, who had not played in the 2nd Bundesliga for more than ten years. The coach had organized a game permit for the 42-year-old at short notice, and although she was sitting on the bench all over the season, she brought a “Victory Cake” to celebrate the success of the team. Newton had failed in the final last season with her team against Rotenburg and explained that she was ready to help at any time: "I am happy if I can give Christian a little security."
The Hurricanes had to defend themselves against the pressure of the Eimsbütteler in the course of the game. At first it didn't look rosy when they were in a 0: 5 deficit, but they could turn the game quickly and tear the rudder around. "We have not lost a quarter," said Greve. The Hurricanes did not play in the best line -up, but they found ways to withstand the pressure from Eimsbüttel and to keep the upper hand.
strong team performance
sam deem, usually known as a wing player, offered a decisive contribution with an outstanding double double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. Anna Suckstorff also showed an impressive performance with 15 points, six rebounds and four steals and helped to limit ex-Hurricanes player Leonie Rosemeyer to just five points. Greve praised the two: "With the duo Anna and Pia Mankertz we are pretty well positioned."
The Hurricanes were able to set important accents again and again in the course of the game, and shortly before the end of the game, a technical foul against Eimsbüttel's coach Frederick Kleemichen ensured further weakening the opponent. After the Hamburg women were close again at 52:50, the left, Schischkov and Deem concluded the game with points and secured the victory.
This was an important step for the team, which can now go into the upcoming games with new self -confidence.
