Greens shape the future: New candidates for the MYK integration advisory board!
There is exciting news from the political landscape in the Mayen-Koblenz district. The Green District Association recently drew up its first list for the Advisory Board for Migration and Integration, which represents a significant step towards greater representation of people with a migrant background. The top candidates were Osama Rahhal in first place and Marie-Odile Ronez in second place. Particularly noteworthy is the great interest shown in an application from 15 people for a total of 10 places on the list.
Osama Rahhal, who came to Germany from Syria in 2015, is motivated to actively promote the integration of people with refugee and migrant backgrounds. “I want to bring their challenges into the political process and give them a strong voice,” says Rahhal. He has already gained experience in this area by serving on the advisory board for migration and integration of the city of Kleve, and is now also contributing his knowledge as an architecture student and member of the district building committee.
The vision of the top candidates
Marie-Odile Ronez underlines the central role of the advisory board for the coexistence of different cultural, religious and national groups. She has already worked as an advisory board member for five years and would like to continue to promote exchange between the Germans living here and people with a migration background. Ronez, who was born in France, sees the German-French friendship as an example of successful intercultural understanding.
The topics of integration and the labor market are also strongly emphasized by Rebecca Stallbaumer, spokeswoman for the district association. “This election gives people with a migrant background the opportunity to participate more actively in local politics,” explains Stallbaumer. Particularly due to the shortage of skilled workers, it is important to utilize the potential of these people. The 44-year-old has an international background and would like to incorporate her experience in career counseling into the council's work.
The election to the Advisory Board for Migration and Integration will take place on November 10th as a postal vote. Foreigners who live in the district will automatically receive their voting documents by post. German citizens with a migration history must be registered in the electoral roll by October 20th. The developments surrounding the election of the advisory board and the candidates show the dynamic debate on migration and integration in Rhineland-Palatinate and could contribute to sustainably changing the political landscape in the region.
