Göttingen is planning a new education plan: opportunities for all children!

An exciting day for the city of Göttingen! The council met on November 15th and brought to the table numerous proposals that directly affect the lives of citizens. Under the motto “Together for the future” an integrated education plan was called for that would bring schools, parents and daycare centers together. The aim is to offer all children the best starting opportunities. Important points in the plan include responding to increasing student numbers, ensuring a smooth transition between educational institutions and promoting digital education. The application was unanimously referred to the Youth Welfare Committee for further discussion.

Another motion that concerns the cultural scene calls for closer cooperation between large Göttingen cultural companies such as the German Theater and the Symphony Orchestra. Here, administrative areas such as public relations and ticketing should be optimized together without affecting artistic work. This application was also unanimously referred to the Committee for Culture and Science.

Family-friendly measures and environmental awareness

The CDU submitted a proposal that would enable free public transport in Göttingen on the Saturday before Christmas, December 21, 2024. This is intended to offer residents relaxed shopping opportunities and revitalize the city center. An application was also made for a “family town hall” that would bring together all important services for families under one roof. This motion was also passed unanimously.

Another notable motion came from the PARTY and Volt council group, which is calling for a night driving ban for robotic lawnmowers to protect endangered animals such as hedgehogs. This request was also approved. In addition, Göttingen should join the network of “organic cities” to promote sustainable agriculture. The motion was passed unanimously. The GöLinke faction, on the other hand, wanted Sparkasse Göttingen to regularly incorporate profits into the city budget, but the majority rejected this.
