Airports in Germany are at a standstill: warning strike causes chaos!

In Germany, comprehensive warning strikes began at 13 airports on Monday, March 10, 2025, which were called due to a tense collective bargaining dispute in the public sector. As the OE24 reported that the employees involved include ground handling services and aviation security services. The strike, which is expected to last 24 hours, affects large airports such as Frankfurt, Munich and Düsseldorf as well as smaller ones such as Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden and Weeze. More than 3,400 flight cancellations are expected, affecting around 510,000 passengers.

Air traffic at the airports is expected to come to an almost complete standstill. At Frankfurt Airport in particular, one of the largest hubs in Europe, passengers must expect significant delays and the cancellation of 1,170 planned take-offs and landings. The operator Fraport has already warned of the acute impact on transit traffic and called on travelers not to come to the terminals while Mirror Plans additional flights in response to the strikes.

The Verdi union is demanding, among other things, a wage increase of eight percent and improvements in occupational health and safety. The employers have not yet submitted a concrete offer. The pressure on employers is growing as the next round of negotiations is already planned for March 26 and 27, 2025.
