Mental health plays a central role at 1. FC Nürnberg, and rightly so. In an industry where pressure to perform and emotions go hand in hand, it is crucial for players, coaches and everyone working behind the scenes to address this issue. The traditional football club is taking on this challenge and is actively participating in the Nuremberg Week for Mental Health, which will take place from October 10th to 20th, 2024 under the patronage of Mayor Marcus König. There are some exciting events planned during this period aimed at promoting mental health awareness.
Nuremberg Week is dedicated to education, exchange and understanding of mental illnesses. A highlight of the activities is a panel discussion that will take place on October 15, 2024 at 6 p.m. in the ClubHaus. Under the title “15 Years after Robert Enke – Mental Health in Football”, a group of experts, including Ronald Reng, biographer of Robert Enke, will explain and discuss various perspectives on the topic of mental health. Helena Schmitz, the club's sports psychologist, and Prof. Dr. Thomas Hillemacher, chief physician at the Department of Psychiatry, will bring their expertise to the discussion. This is particularly important as Robert Enke, who tragically died in 2009, raised public awareness of depression in football through his experiences.
Activities and workshops
- Yoga-Session im ClubHaus am 17. Oktober 2024
Another important part of the week is a yoga session on October 17, 2024. In this event, trainer Antonia will explain the benefits of yoga to participants. Yoga is not only considered an excellent way to increase flexibility and physical well-being, but also to manage stress. Studies show that regular yoga practice can help reduce mental fatigue and increase concentration, which is particularly important for competitive athletes.
- Bingo und Informationen auf fcn.de
For younger fans and those interested, the 1. FC Nürnberg Youth Training Center (NLZ) offers information about mental health online. A fun game of bingo introduces everyday behaviors that can help improve mental well-being. Vouchers are given out as an incentive for the first people to successfully complete the bingo, supported by the Fackelmann Therme.
In addition, 1. FC Nürnberg conducts numerous workshops that deal with the topics of self-care and time management. These are aimed at players, coaches and the entire team of the club. Initiatives such as the “Active Break” are also intended to help reduce daily stress.
In addition, the Robert Enke Foundation will present a virtual exhibition entitled “Impression Depression” at Valznerweiher. Anyone aged 18 or over has the opportunity to understand and experience typical symptoms of depression via virtual reality. This immersive experience will take place on October 13th and 14th, 2024 in the health studio of the health department in Nuremberg.
1. FC Nürnberg is taking on the challenge of putting mental health in the spotlight and, with its diverse campaigns, is showing how important it is to talk openly about mental stress and offer support. For those responsible at the club, it is a matter of the heart to offer players, employees and fans a platform to exchange ideas about these critical topics. More information about the events and the opportunity to register can be found on the club's official website on www.fcn.de.
