Mobile libraries in Plön: culture on wheels for all generations!
Could there be a more exciting place for book lovers than a truck full of stories? That's exactly what the mobile libraries in the Plön district offer! For a staggering 50 years, these traveling treasure chests have been delivering books, audiobooks, CDs and even digital media directly to rural areas. What once began as a humble book bus has grown into a comprehensive library system that provides residents with a seemingly endless selection. The media inventory has adapted to modern needs - even seeds and digital reading figures are now part of the offering!
Last year, the two mobile libraries visited a whopping 272 locations! With a fantastic offering for around 65,000 residents, they are an indispensable part of cultural life in the region. District Administrator Björn Demmin praises the mobile libraries as a living symbol of access to knowledge and culture. It's not just a simple loan - the mobile libraries bring people together, strengthen social cohesion and enliven the villages!
Mobile library in the Plön district: More than just books
For the youngest, the book truck brings a treasure trove of knowledge! The mobile libraries not only deliver books, but also materials for primary schools and kindergartens - helping the little ones become fond of reading and strengthen their language skills. District President Hildegard Mersmann emphasizes: “Reading strengthens the soul” and emphasizes that reading provides support and inspiration in uncertain times.
Oke Simons, managing director of the SH library association, is also proud of the important role of mobile libraries. His goal is to further develop this golden institution - a cultural meeting place that ensures access to education and culture. Innovative ideas such as pick-up stations and reading motivation training are on the agenda!
