Experience the (Wild) Bee Days in Vienna: protect and discover bees!

On Saturday, April 26th and Sunday, April 27th, 2025, an exciting event will take place in the Am Himmel Tree of Life Circle in Vienna: the (Wild) Bee Days. Under the motto “Knowing, appreciating and protecting (wild) bees in Vienna”, the event is aimed at bee lovers and those interested in nature. Admission is free and the event takes place from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., whatever the weather Eco News announces.

The (Wild) Bee Days program includes a wide range of information about the biodiversity, importance and protection of wild and honey bees. Experts will share their knowledge about these important pollinators, complemented by creative stations that invite you to discover, craft and be amazed. Highlights include a research tent from the University of Vienna that focuses on honey bees, as well as another tent from the Austrian Wild Bee Council that offers support for wild bees.

Fascination with bees: diversity and threat

There are over 20,000 bee species worldwide, of which around 2,000 occur in Europe and almost 600 in Germany. In Germany, flower pollination is particularly important because honey bees and wild bees play a central role in the pollination of plants. These insects contribute not only to biodiversity but also to nutrition, such as BMEL explained.

However, it is an alarming fact that the biodiversity crisis, characterized, among other things, by the decline in insect populations, is also threatening bee populations. The causes range from sealing and development to the use of pesticides and the climate crisis. Habitat loss due to changes in the agricultural landscape also contributes to this worrying trend, such as BMEL reported.

Practical offers and educational initiatives

There will be numerous practical offers as part of the bee days. These include, among other things, a display beehive, a bee educational trail, bee quizzes and craft stations that are particularly appealing to children. Face painting and a forest educational adventure children's playground are also part of the program to get the youngest visitors excited about the world of bees.

The Buschenschank catering outdoors and the Café Restaurant Oktogon Am Himmel take care of culinary enjoyment. These measures are intended to help raise awareness of the importance of bees while creating a pleasant atmosphere for all visitors.

In summary, the goal of (Wild) Bee Days is to educate the public about the fascinating world of bees while at the same time drawing attention to the threats that these important pollinators face. Preserving biological diversity is essential, not just for bees, but for the entire ecosystem and future food production.
