Break-in at a car dealer in Heide: Ten keys stolen!

On the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, January 9, 2025, unknown perpetrators broke into the office of a car dealer in Heide. The incidents occurred between Tuesday evening, 5:30 p.m., and Wednesday morning, 10:00 a.m., on Am Kleinbahnhof street. The perpetrators got into the car dealer's container by breaking a window.

During the break-in, the perpetrators stole a total of ten vehicle keys. However, the associated cars could not be stolen because they had already been scrapped. The damaged window caused three-digit property damage. The Heide criminal police have started investigating a particularly serious case of theft and are urgently looking for witnesses. Anyone with suspicious perceptions in the Am Kleinbahnhof street area is asked to call 0481 940. The report was sent by the Itzehoe Police Department at 11:30 a.m.

Motor vehicle crime in Germany

The average individual damage amount for stolen vehicles has increased in recent years, but recorded a decline for the first time in 2021. The target markets for the stolen vehicles are predominantly in Eastern Europe and are divided into Central Asia and West and North Africa. The groups of perpetrators are highly qualified and specialized, which means that they work in a division of labor in overcoming electronic security devices and transporting and dismantling the vehicles. Individual parts of the acquired vehicles are often recycled via internet portals or in used parts stores.

National and international cooperation between law enforcement authorities to combat motor vehicle crime has been strengthened since 2014, including joint control and search operations at the Schengen external borders. Despite these measures, no relaxation in the area of motor vehicle crime is expected in the near future, as the technical skills of the perpetrators and the sales opportunities for stolen vehicles and parts remain.
